Movin' on up...

Today is a terrific day! My friend Shaynee's younger brother, Matt Smith (see above), has just been called up to play for the Columbus Clippers. For those of you that don't follow baseball, the Clippers are the Yankee's AAA farm team. This means that Matt is one step away from the majors. He is a left handed relief pitcher and all in all a great guy. Not to mention, quite good looking. (Stop cringing Shaynee!) Keep an eye out for the up and coming talent. I can't wait to be old and gray, when I can tell my grandkids "I knew him when..." Congrats Matt and keep up the good work! I can't wait to see you play in the Bronx. Posted by Hello

Hit or Miss

So I was reading my friend Ciaran's blog this morning about his date over the weekend. He met this girl on Match.com. The date seemed to go well for hime. This got me thinking about my own experiences on internet dating sites and how you never know how a date is going.

Back in late January I met a guy on Date.com. For the purposes of this blog, and to keep his identity a secret, I will give him a code name. His code name will be "Ass". (How's that for foreshadowing?)

Well Ass and I emailed back and forth a few times. We spoke on the phone in between emails. Everything was goign well at this point. Being the skeptic that I am, I was of the "I'll believe it when I see it" mindset. I was NOT getting my hopes up. So we decided that we should meet. I suggested Friday or Saturday night. He didn't want to wait. He wanted to go out that night (Wednesday). So we made plans to meet at a bar near my house (since not only did I know the bartenders, it was also close enough to my friends house that should I need an escape her hubby could easily come rescue me) for a few drinks and to play some pool.

Well as I am getting ready, Ass calls. It turns out that he got lost on his way to the bar. (He was new to Vegas and lived on the other side of town.) So I helped him find his way. (No he did not pick me up - he was a complete stranger that did not need to know where I lived.) I get to the bar before him and order a beer. He walks in and actually looks like his picture. Bonus! So we chat for a while, watching a college basketball game. When the game was over we moved to the pool table. We were talking and laughing the whole time. He tried to give me pointers to improve my pool game. It was great. When we talked, he would say how next time we go out we would do this or that - which I took as a good sign. Why else would Ass mention next time unless he wanted to see me again, right?

Anyway, we fininsh playing pool and we are still talking. He starts to get antsy and the he (Morgan you will want to stop reading from this point on) leans in and kisses me. Now I don't know about you, but I have never had a "No kissing until the 3rd date" rule or anything like that. I like to see where things go and just enjoy. So (again Morgan - you don't want to read this), we are at this point, basically making out in the bar. We decide to call it a night. He walks me out to my car, where we say goodbye (ahem) for another 45 minutes or so. Ass asks if he can come home with me. I say no. I have an early morning on Thursday and I need to get some sleep, not to mention the fact that I don't do that. I do not bring guys home. Especially not on the first date.

As soon as I walk in the door, my phone starts ringing. Its Ass. I ask him, smart ass that I am, if he got lost again. He laughs and says no, he wanted to know if I wanted to go out Thursday night. I tell him that I will need to check my schedule and let him know in the morning. So the next day I send Ass an email saying that since I have an 8 am meeting on the other side of town on Friday morning, I will not be able to see him on Thursday night. I would however like to hang out with him on Friday or Saturday.

I don't get a response from him until late on Thursday, in which Ass tells me that there is a chance he is going out of town for the weekend but he will let me know.

Needless to say that is the last time I heard from Ass.

It makes you wonder - why when all the signs are pointing to a good time, do things end up shitty? I just don't get it. And of course, girl that I am, I spend a week and a half after that wondering will he call?, will he send me an email?, did I do something wrong?, should I have not allowed Ass to kiss me?, should I have let Ass come home with me?, should I have seen Ass on Thursday?.

It is all crap. Dating is so utterly subjective that the same signs that worked once may never work again. You just have to dive in everytime and hope there is enough water in the pool.

The answer

So a few days ago I posted a map of the US that highlighted all of the states I have visited at one time or another. I recently removed the post because the map was too big and was messing up the layout of my blog. I am not well versed in HTML so I couldn't fix it.

Another blogger, Beo, made a comment to that particular post, asking why I had a link to the NY Yankees website. (Keep in mind that Beo is from Boston.) I am a DIE HARD Yankee fan. Growing up in NY, I was a fan of both the Mets and the Yankees, but as I became more familiar with the sport and more interested in it, I found that my support was leaning heavily towards the NY Yankees. That support has grown into an obsession. I collect various Yankee memorabilia, which since moving across the country has become tougher. I currently own a 12 inch Yankee pez dispenser, a Derek Jeter bobble head, a set of miniature bobble head magnets, photos, flags, keychains, window clings, and my prize possession - a mint in box NY Yankee Barbie doll. Not to mention all of the hats, t-shirts, and sweatshirts that take up a large portion of my wardrobe. Of course I also have a pendant that never leaves my neck with the interlocking NY.

So, Beo, the reason I have a link to the NY Yankees website is because they are the greatest team in baseball. They have won 26 world championships. (I think Boston is due to win the next one in, what, 2090?). They may slump from time to time, but they will always be my boys. I hope that answers your question.

Smoke from wildfires fills the valley

Due to the large amount of wild fires in the mountains around Las Vegas, the valley was filled with an ominous smoke cover. Early in the day it seemed to just pour out of the mountains giving off this weird haze. Needless to say, everyone in Las Vegas has a massive headache. Hopefully anyone who suffers from asthma was able to stay indoors, otherwise they had a really rough day. Here's hoping the fires are contained and extinguished soon!

Pictures! On my blog!

So I finally figured out how to post pictures on my blog. It's so much fun! So there are a lot of pictures to look at. I took them all myself with the exception of the one Shaynee took of me and the one Morgan took of himself. More pictures to come later...
